This article in not related to architecture, more like town planning. Since architecture is the building blocks of a city, I thought it is interesting to share this interesting information on statues. Wikipedia on Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue:

The Genghis Khan Statue is a 40-metre tall statue of Ghengis Khan on horseback, on the bank of the Tuul River at Tsonjin Boldog (54 km east of the capital Ulan Bator), where according to legend, he found a golden whip. The statue is coverered in 250 tons of stainless steel is symbolically pointed south toward China. It is on top of the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, a visitor centre, itself 10 metres tall, with 36 columns representing the 36 khans from Genghis to Ligdan Khan. It was designed by sculptor D. Erdembileg and architect J. Enkhjargal and erected in 2008. Wikipedia

What is the meaning of the horse’s position?

If the horse has three legs on the ground, the rider was wounded in battle, if the horse has two legs on the ground then the rider died in battle, if the horse is stationary the rider did not die in battle.

Some say this is a myth, or an urban legend. There is no official rules, but most sculpture artist do honor this rule when they sculpt.

I fully support the up and coming gathering at Dataran Merdeka, Malaysia. Not only I find the idea of setting up a rare earth plant in Malaysia unacceptable, the whole fiasco is a farce. Mineral rich rare earths are shipped from Australia to Malaysia to be processed, we keep the radioactive by-product and export the much sought after minerals all over the world. This is pure BS.

Epic sign is epic. I believe it is now known as Adelaide Arcade.

In August 1885, Gays Arcade was announced in course of construction with a 100 foot frontage to Twin Street and a depth of 119 feet to Adelaide Arcade. N W Trudgeon built Gays Arcade for 11,000 pounds. The architect was James Cumming who also was the architect for the Australian Mutual Provident Building in King William Street.

I just couldn’t help but notice the latest Google Doodle on the homepage. Today is Ludwig Mies van der Rohe 126th Birthday, born March 27, 1886 and passed away on August 17, 1969.

Even a 10 years old kid knows how to lay a brick. Malaysia’s Prime Minister was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, basically he had it easy because his father was the 2nd prime minister of Malaysia. Maybe lego was too mainstream when he was a kid.
